                                About the Book

Presented for your enjoyment, I offer “Invasion of the Drive-in Horror Flicks.”  It was written quickly during a rocky time when I was in the midst of losing my day job.  I put it together fast and furiously, in the spirit of the zines I was writing for at the time- typing it, pasting it together, doing the art, and copying it on a machine at work.  I’d been a fan of genre movie review guides by guys like John Stanley, John McCarty and Chas Balun since I was a kid, and I saw this as an opportunity to, in some small way, join their ranks.  (It was also a way to keep my mind busy while not knowing, a mere month before Christmas, what I’d be doing for a steady income in the new millennium.)  Please remember, this book was put together in 1999, when the DVD revolution was just catching on and every other movie at the theater was not a remake of some classic ‘70s horror hit.  I tried to cover movies that were available on video cassette, and those released to cable TV.  (A lot of horror movies were made for cable channels like HBO, Showtime and the USA Network from the mid to late ‘90s.)  The DVD revolution has made many of these films new again, but the book covers many films that have not been seen from since their mid to late ‘80s video incarnation.  I warn you though, it’s a bumpy ride at times, but sometimes “rough around the edges” is good.  I have taken the liberty of cleaning up the typos, but I’ve left the fraction and run on sentences- as those are part of the energy and thinking that went into writing and producing the books
