NEWS

January 1, 2010 to February 7, 2010

Great news!  I have a new story entitled “A Lesson in Magic” included in the upcoming anthology 100 Stories for Haiti.  It will be available soon as an ebook as well as a paperback.  The project is the brainchild of Greg McQueen, who put everything together in record time.  Within two weeks he collected over four hundred stories from writers all around the world.  The book is now in the final stages of editing.  I am proud to be a part of it.  All sales of the book go directly to the Red Cross for earthquake victims in Haiti.  Look for it late February.   www.100storiesforhaiti.org

The new issue of Blood Moon Rising is on line and ready to be enjoyed.  In addition to the regular news, articles and fiction offerings, my new Digital Shrieks movie review column offers my thoughts on a slew of flicks based on the work of Stephen King.  Check it out at: www.bloodmoonrisingmagazine.com.

I am starting to help compile content for a new magazine from Paul Mcvay.  Drive-in of the Damned Magazine will offer the very best in exploitation movie reviews, articles and interviews.  The first issue will feature in-depth interviews with filmmakers Ted V. Mikels and Frank Henenlotter.  (Both interviews are taken from the on-air interviews Paul conducted for the Drive-in of the Damned’s Incredibly Strange Radio Show.)  I’ve also been told that former Fangoria editor Bob Martin weighs in with his thoughts regarding a magazine based on a radio show.  Until the magazine is unleashed, you can get a taste of what is to come from the Drive-in of the Damned YouTube channel, which offers the best in exploitation trailers and drive-in movie ads.

Just a reminder, my short story “The Details of Blood” is available now in the ebook Blood from the Underground Volume 2.  Infernal Dreams is offering their anthology of bloody horror tales for a small donation to Scares that Care, an organization that helps fight childhood diseases and illness.  The anthology will soon be available in paperback.  www.infernaldreams.net.

The proof for my zombie novel Bijou of the Dead has arrived and I am diligently working on getting that done and turned back in to my publisher, Stone Garden Publishing.  I am looking forward to this official release, and I have worked hard to make it a better version of the story that was previously published by Wasteland Press.  When I get the new cover art, I will post it here.  The release date is set for July 2010.

I will be at the Connooga multi-genre convention in Chattanooga, TN over the weekend of February 19-21.   I will have a number of new books with me, such as my latest horror collection Shivers and the zombie anthology Forrest J. Ackerman presents: The Anthology of the Living Dead, but quantities will be limited.  I will also have on hand plenty of copies of my new novella The Santa Thing, which I’ll be offering for a couple bucks under the cover price.  I hope to see you there.   www.connooga.com.

The final edit for the paranormal book I co-wrote with investigator Paul Cagle was just sent to the publisher.  Seems we managed to spook our editor on the project out with our true tales of ghostly encounters. (This may be the scariest book I’ve written!)Paranormal Journeys will be released this October.  Until then, you can keep up with Paul’s investigations, as well as listen to us talk shop on the SEPS Paranormal Podcast at: sepsparanormal.org.

The new issue of The Phantom of the Movies’ Videoscope Magazine is now available.  This issue is crammed with reviews and interviews.  I contribute two dozen film reviews- covering everything from new releases to H.G. Lewis flicks to grindhouse classics- as well as the second part of my 2-part interview with exploitation director Frank Henenlotter.  In part 2 Frank talks about his new film, Bad Biology, as well as a number of upcoming documentaries he’s working on for Something Weird Video.  This is one magazine that keeps getting better.  Pick it up wherever fine magazines are sold.

The new issue of SCARS Magazine is available.  You can read it absolutely free!  Go to the website and select an issue to read through.  You can read it cover to cover without spending a dime.  There’s nothing to download or sign up for, no new membership or password.  The December 2009 issue (The Hills Run Red cover) features my latest interview with horror icon Lynn Lowry.  The interview covers a number of Lynn’s new films, including the upcoming remake of The Crazies www.scarsmagazine.com.

My action/sci-fi novella “2017: Frankenstein and the Warriors of the Lost City” is available to read now at The Random Eye.  My story is a tribute to all the great Italian rip-off films that came after the success of Escape from New York and The Road Warrior.  Coming in at 20,000+ words, this one moves and delivers the retro thrills of the post-apoc flicks of the ‘80s.  I hope you enjoy it.  therandomeye.atspace.com

The book signing for Forrest J. Ackerman presents: The Anthology of the Living Dead in Evansville, Indiana was a huge success.

From the Left Robert Freese, Justin Brock-Jones & Travis GrundonI thank J. Travis Grundon and Justin Brock-Jones for inviting me along.  Thanks too to the staff of the Barnes & Noble.  It was a great time.  We ended up staying an hour longer than scheduled and sold nearly every copy of the anthology the store had in stock.  Thank you to everyone who made it such a great time.
